Candidates for the Golden Ball Awards 2017 were announced yesterday in HCM City.

HÀ NỘI — Candidates for the Golden Ball Awards 2017 were announced yesterday in HCM City.

The event’s organiser, Sài Gòn Giải Phóng (Liberated Saigon) newspaper, named 15 male nominees for their performances for club teams and the national side, including three players of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai: Nguyễn Công Phượng, Nguyễn Văn Toàn and Vũ Văn Thanh.

Midfielder Trần Phi Sơn of Sông Lam Nghệ An was also named. His chances will be boosted if he can lead Nghệ An to National Cup glory later this month.

Among 10 female players, the three favourites are Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Dung of Hà Nam, HCM City’s Chương Thị Kiều and Nguyễn Thị Muôn of Hà Nội 1.

In the futsal category, ten nominees were picked including Vũ Quốc Hưng of Hải Phương Nam and Phạm Đức Hòa and Phùng Trọng Luân of Thái Sơn Nam.

There are nine nominees for the award of the best male young footballer including Hà Đức Chinh of SHB Đà Nẵng, Nguyễn Thành Chung of Hà Nội and Bùi Tiến Dũng of Thanh Hóa.

Nguyễn Thị Vạn, Nguyễn Thị Trúc Hương and Hà Thị Nhài of Việt Nam Coal and Mineral, Nguyễn Thị Minh Anh of Hà Nam, and Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Ngân of HCM City will vie for the award of the best female young player.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on January 2 in HCM City. — VNS
