Accidents claim 183 lives during Tet holiday
The Ministry of Public Security reported that during the nine-day holiday, 276 accidents claimed 183 lives and injured 241 others.
From February 2-8, 135 were dead and 189 others were injured in 214 accidents, down 17.7 percent in the number of cases, 30.7 percent in fatalities and 14.01 percent in the number of the wounded as compared to the previous Tet holiday.
The average fatalities during Tet reached 20 cases per day, down 28 percent annually.
According to the Health Ministry’s Medical Services Administration, over 45,600 cases underwent health check-ups and first aid due to traffic accidents from February 2-9, accounting for 14.3 percent of the total. More than 16,600 of them were hospitalised and 187 dead.
Traffic police also dealt with more than 21,300 road safety violations, seizing nearly 4,000 vehicles and 2,900 driving licences.-VNA
