The main route running from Dao San commune to border communes in Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province was temporarily cleared on August 7 as a result of the recovery efforts by relevant forces.

However, continued heavy downpours and landslides led to traffic jam again in a number of provincial areas, making it very difficult accessible.

Consequently, relevant forces have tried their utmost to clear the way at the earliest time. Meanwhile, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai was also hit by torrential downpours, causing an estimated loss of roughly VND10 billion.

The hardest hit districts include Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Bao Thang, Bao Yen and Van Ban where a total of 100  houses and over 100 hectares of agricultural land were damaged, nearly 20,000 heads of poultry were killed by flooding, and dozens of  provincial and inter-communal roads were ruined by landslides.
