At least three were killed and several injured when the scaffolding at a construction site in Hanoi collapsed on Wednesday, sending a dozen workers to the ground.

The accident happened at around 2:00 am at a construction site on To Huu Street in Hanoi’s Nam Tu Liem District, according to district officials.

Nineteen men were working on the site at the time of the accident, including twelve workers on the five-meter-high scaffolding and seven on the ground.

Three workers were announced immediately dead, while three others were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

The dead victims have been identified as Tran Van Tuc, 31, Doan Van Manh, 28, and Doan Van Banh, 22, who were all from northern Yen Bai Province.

Emergency responders are working to rescue those still trapped under the rubble.

Chu Van Duc, chief construction inspector of Nam Tu Liem District, said the construction site belonged to a multi-storey car park developed by Hanoi-based Viet Nhat Investment and Tourism Company.

Construction on the parking ramp had begun on November 16, 2017, Duc added.

“It is not immediately clear what caused the accident. What we know at the moment is that the workers were in the middle of concreting when the tragedy struck,” Duc said.
