The flower villages are bustling with the hubbub of buyers and sellers. Instead of buying already bloomed flower plants, most of the merchants have chosen bud branches and wait until they open at Tet holiday. Those vivid flower branches will then be sold mostly to people in Central Highlands region and southern cities and provinces.

“This year the market is not as bullish as the year before due to impacts of the 12th typhoon. Merchants seem to be into small and medium-sized apricot blossom plants with their price ranging from 700,000 to 1 million Vietnam dong,” said Le Van Hung from Binh Kien commune, Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province

The unfavourable weather last year has dashed farmers’ hope for vivid blooming apricot blossoms. However, they have still exerted constant efforts to bring consumers the most stunning flowers for the upcoming Lunar New Year festival.

Dao Tan Quoc from Binh Kien commune said: “Due to the awful weather, it costs us much more effort to take care of those plants than in the year before.”

There always long queues of trucks lining up along the way to apricot blossoms farm as the flowers planted in Phu Yen are highly favoured by consumers for its dazzling beauty.

Vo Van Hiep, a merchant from Ho Chi Minh City said: “Like any other years, merchants gather here or in Binh Dinh province to buy apricot blossoms. The flowers in Phu Yen have a unique beauty that cannot be found elsewhere.”

Binh Kien flower village in Tuy Hoa City is the largest hub of apricot blossoms in Phu Yen province with ten thousand vases sold each year, mostly to other provinces.

Gaining consumers’ favour, the flowers have helped the locals improve livelihoods.-
