Speaking at a meeting in Can Tho with the centre’s Director Li He, Vice Rector of Can Tho University Nguyen Thanh Phuong said that the university is currently the largest training centre in the Mekong Delta region.

In the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released in July 2018, Can Tho University was ranked third in Vietnam, 57th in Southeast Asia, 703rd in Asia, and 2,174th in the world.

With its strategy of becoming an excellent university in research and training in multi-majors and multi-sectors to provide better human resources for the region and the entire nation, Can Tho university hopes to cooperate with the Chinese centre in various aspects, Phuong added.

Li He appreciated the university’s position and role in the educational sector in Vietnam in particular and in the world in general.

He voiced his hope to coordinate with the university through student exchanges and research cooperation, especially in philosophy and Southeast Asian culture.

At the meeting, both sides also expressed their wish to establish a Chinese cultural space at Can Tho University, which will serve as premise to open Chinese language teaching and cultural research centres in the Mekong Delta, thus contributing to the tightening of Vietnam-China relations.–VNA
